Pixen 3 Beta 1 Launch

So we've gone ahead and skipped r2v5. This release is going to be huge. And today, we'd like to give you all a taste.

Open Sword Group is proud to announce today's release of Pixen 3 Beta 1. Now, it's still not feature complete (so please don't submit this to any update sites), but the bugs are mostly gone, and we feel it's ready for general consumption.

For an idea of what we've been working on for the last eight months, just look at the changelog, which spans several pages—even bigger than r2. And we're not done yet. There will be substantial feature additions to this build before the final release.

More details are available on the beta page, where you can download a copy and read about what we'd like you to check out. We really need your feedback on this build!

Thank you all for making this last year so amazing.

Pixen 3.0!

Pixen 3.0 is finally available! Check out the new project site for it here and get downloading!

Took us long enough.

If you're upgrading from r2v4, you're going to see some pretty massive changes. If you're upgrading from r3b2, the changes are relatively minor. Most importantly, the application is now a universal binary. Took us long enough, but at least we beat Adobe.

It's been three months since the last beta, and we've been busy. We really appreciate all the feedback you've given us; it's helped shape this next version.

Which we're launching today. Go grab Pixen r3b2, which now features animation, a reenvisioned palette, documentation, many bug fixes, and even more optimizations! A full list of changes is available here.

Pixen.dmg has been updated, due to a bug I just found where images could not be created over a certain size. If you've already downloaded r2v4, you should probably download it again. Sorry about that.

We were planning to hold off on another new release until right before the O'Reilly's Mac OS X Innovators' contest, but it turns out that there's another contest going on at the Apple Expo in Paris. So we decided to make an interim release for that. It has a lot of really great new stuff. Check out the changelog and download! Here's some pictures of the new build:

We're still going to fix some crosshair glitches and make the color palette look more awesome before the O'Reilly contest at the end of the month. So hopefully, there'll be another release in a little under two weeks.

Pixen r2v2 Launch

It's only been five days, but we've been hard at work. We've fixed a number of bugs that have been bothering users, but more importantly, we've fulfilled just about every not-huge feature request that we received.

In the interest of getting our work into the hands of users more quickly, we're trying to increase the granularity of our releases, doing fewer huge builds like r2 was (the feature list for that went on for almost two pages!) and more releases like this one, with a modest 15-20 updates. In any case, you should check out what's new and download this new version.

We hope you enjoy it!

New Web Site Launch

Open Sword Group's new artist, Miguel Estupiñan, has been working with myself and Ian for the past two months or so to come up with the fabulous web site and forum system that you see before you. One thing to note is that there's a lot of really great content on the Pixen project page now, as opposed to the single-page layout of the previous site. Additionally, we're now mostly compatible with WinIE. Not that we really care about that browser.

These forums are still in a beta phase; they were written in house by Ian and skinned by myself and Miguel. If you notice any problems with the forum or have a suggestion, please don't hesitate to email us or better yet, just create a topic to discuss the matter.

The site is also still in a transition phase of sorts. The tasks section and RepTile project page, especially, will be changing over the coming weeks. We hope that you'll join our little community here and continue to help us develop great software for you all.

Pixen 2

Though we love our new website, we have some even bigger news: today, we're launching Pixen 2! The amount of work that has gone into this release is mind-boggling. Just look at the changes since r1v12.

Though the speed boost and dozens of bug fixes are great, there are some really unique new features in this version of Pixen that we've been working on over the last few months. There are plenty of screenshots and descriptions of the major new features over at the Pixen features page.

So feel free to download this amazing new version of Pixen, try it out, and let us know what you think here on our brand new forums!

Incidentally, we'd also love to see the art that you all have made with Pixen. Soon, we'll be launching a proper art gallery, but in the meantime, there's a forum specifically for showing off what you've done with Pixen.

Thanks, and I hope you all enjoy this new version very much!
